Ladies Competition Team, Portland Open

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” (Harriett Tubman).

In Fall 2021, PBD started what would become a brand new category across multiple studios in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Ballroom Dance Ladies Competition Team was filled with ambitious dancers who had strong personalities and leadership qualities that turned heads. The 2021 Ladies Team united both Junior age and Youth age dancers who impacted the Ballroom Dance community so much that other studios are following suit and creating their own teams filled with talented and hard working young ladies.

“When we took the Ladies Competition Team, Directed by Adam Lee, to both the Portland Open Competition and the Extreme Competition in Idaho last year, we received countless comments on how wonderful this team of ladies was, followed by lots of questions! The team was full of energy and represented PBD in work ethic, attitude and what a formation team is all about. Plus we had a blast as a team and connected in ways that are different from a co-ed formation team,” said Raney Welch, Assistant Director of the 2021 Ladies Competition Team.

PBD has friendly relationships with multiple ballroom studios including Extreme and Premier Ballroom located in Idaho, and Island Style located in Utah, all who have adopted this category of formation teams into their program. The next time the PBD Ladies Competition Team travels to compete they will be up against other talented teams ready to challenge the PBD originals!

While solo Ballroom Dancing isn’t as popular in the United States as it is in Europe, it’s slowly gaining traction and PBD wants to build the momentum that pushes our dancers forward in their ability and opportunity to grow as athletes.

If you are thinking of new ways to help your dancing, this is it! Ladies, you have the option to add another competition team to your training. It’s a great way to improve and focus on your personal technique while learning choreography, traveling to competitions, and dancing alongside motivated and enthusiastic peers making memories.

It won’t take long before even more studios catch the flame. The time is now for PBD to step up and build strong ladies formation teams who are passionate and full of dreamers that will continue to make waves in the Ballroom Dance world!
