Highlighting the Performers of Pacific Ballroom Dance

Because of capacity limits at our studio, all dancers had to stay outside or in their cars in between their performances. Luckily it was a beautiful day! Or in other words, it wasn’t raining.

It feels amazing to be with our friends!

This event was the first time that PBD has had a live, in-person event in over a year. Students loved being together “backstage” in studio 4. 

Students performed for a live audience for the first time in over a year. 

Up to 30 spectators at a time lined up in the space between the light stands and the wall to watch their dancers perform for the first time in over 12 months. Sets of two people staked their claim to a dot taped to the floor, standing room only. Despite the unusual circumstances and tired feet, there was joy and relief at being inside the studio together again. “The happy looks on the parents faces made it all worthwhile,” said Katie Mecham. 

The students performed the competition medleys that they will be taking to the Extreme competition in just a few weeks.

In addition to medleys, students performed dance demonstrations of open choreography solos, syllabus technique, and student choreography in a variety of styles. 

Six and a half hours of dancing pulled off without a hitch, thanks to a staff that KNOWS about teamwork.

The staff of PBD designed and constructed a stage, streamed it live, with live music and two MCs. They helped with costumes, made sure everyone was lined up and looking sharp, shepherded audience members, gave pep talks, and more!

Of course, there was a lot of waiting, but no one seemed to mind!

The performers spent their time rehearsing and watching the TV monitor to see what was happening in the other room, when they weren’t busy getting into costume and lining up, of course.
